48 degrees in san francisco. 52 in santa rosa. 44 degrees. we can see the dense fog hanging around some spots today and sunny and mild for most. later on this afternoon, big changes moving in for tomorrow. we'll have more details on your extended forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> new details on the break through to end the port dispute . joe vasquez tell us what it took to get things back in order. a breakthrough held by the secretary of labor. >> i said it was first and goal at the 8-yard line on tuesday. i'm happy to report they have crossed the goal line, but nobody is spiking the football because we know that there's still a lot of work to do in terms of restoring confidence and getting the ports up in order. >> the ports have been in a chaotic mess for much of the

summerfield a father with young children. someone can't take into account that you can affect someone's life forever just because you want to have ten seconds of fun. you just took someone's life forever. >> driver took off. there were several witnesses when the crash happened. anybody with information is a asked to contact them. a red suv hit a mother and her toddler in san francisco. it happened yesterday. the two were on a bicycle. the crash sent her mom and daughter flying into the air. the mom has a broken leg. the child, bumps and bruises. no word if police cited the driver. >> a man and woman were trying to shoplift when for some reason a guy took off with an 18-month-old baby in the car

the baby was later found safe. a man tried to kidnap a 14- year-old girl. they say he resembles this sketch. she said the man he doesn't know tried to pull him into her car. she fought him off and ran for help. in san jose, two men were arrested in the murder of a security guard. juan hernandez and richard cruz now in the santa clara jail. 34-year-old was working at a nightclub next door. he tried to stop the thieves but somebody in the robbery getaway car shot him. officers say more arrests could be coming. happening today, an area code shuffle for thousands of bay area phone lines. kpix andrea -- tells us how it's out with one and in with

the 628. >> three little numbers but a big change for bay area calls. >> if i try to make a call, it won't go there. i don't understand what we have to change. we're used to 415. >> well, the reason is simple. not enough numbers in the 415 area code for the growing population. so the new numbers will get 628. there's been plenty of warnings by cell providers. >> i've gotten it twice. so did prepare me for this. i think i received one about a month ago. she's already changed 415 contacts in her cell, but as it becomes antique, some groups may be excited about the new digits. >> if we're expanding, 628 seems like a great area code too, at least for chinese people. we like that number. the 68 part is luck. >> if you're using a cell phone, just dial 415. if you're using a land line, you have to dial 1 and 415.

did you hear the raiders may be leaving oakland for southern california, carson, california, near l.a. this is what the stadium would look like. $1.7billion complex that would be the home for both the raiders and the san diego chargers, their big rival, but oakland city leaders are saying not so fast. they're not about to let the raiders head south so easy. >> this is a very complex deal. it can't get done in 30 days. >> now, here's an interesting note. no representatives from the raiders or the charges were at friday's stadium announcement both teams said they want to work out deals with their cities before going to l.a. the bay bridge is only getting worse. steel rods are rusting. some pay be cracking. they're supposed to be sealed but it turns out at least 34 of them are not. that means they're getting wet

with rainwater. >> we saw some corrosion product. we saw some evidence some damage on the surface. it's too soon to draw any conclusions. >> they say the bridge is safe and able to withstand a large earthquake. they plan to implode parts of the old bay bridge. here's how it would workal it would happen on the underwater peers. cal tran said they're meeting with regulators to talk about the process. they want to make sure marine life is protected. >> one of the world's tallest buildings called the marina torch caught fire, damaging several apartment units overnight. check out this cell phone video of the fire that started yesterday. three floors of the residential tower were damaged. some people were injured, but nothing serious, we're told. firefighters put out that fire before it could cause any more serious damage. >> acieser is lowering the cost

of hiv drugs m. insurers began changing their price structure for drugs last year. they moved drugs into a specialty drugs drugs category. that forces the patients to pay a portion of the cost. it increased the price of some hiv drugs from a $50 copay to is thousand dollars a month. kiezer mentioned they would be moving those drugs out of the specialty category. >> a federal judge in texas blocked a program that would allow -- the motion will also appeal the ruling to get the program restarted. and the feds are trying to sort out the mess with obama care. inaccurate information was sent out to 800,000 people.

the administration says those people should wait to file their taxes. they're trying to notify everybody by phone and e-mail. this deals with people who get a government subsidy. uber, making more money? a showroom on wheels.

well, the calendar says february, but it really doesn't feel like it. if you didn't know yet, it is official. this is the warmest winter on record in california. 93% of california is in a severe drought right now. and there's hardly any snow up in the mountains. time lapse video, this ski event had to be canceled. >> 75 cities shattered, low temperature on friday.

that means bitter cold there on the map. in new york city, it's so cold the hudson river has turned to ice. >> this aerial view of the city, some boats have gotten stuck in all that ice. down in kentucky, one guy has quite a bit of trouble shoveling snow. you can see him slipping and sliding, though. he posted -- he was exaggerating for the camera. we all do that sometimes. >> we don't have any of that around here. let's take a look at our weather today. here is a live shot of levi stadium. it looks like a good start to the weekend. mild temperatures, much cooler and breezy tomorrow. so we do have some changes on the way and sprinkles possible for the far south bay tomorrow. let's fly around the bay and take a look at some of the temperatures. we got a lot of low 60s and 67.

sunny veil, 68 today. cupertino, 78 degrees. as we slide over to the east bay. walnut creek at 67 today, 66 in danville. 67 in antioch and brentwood you. era going to get to 64 degrees. along the coast, a little cooler at 61. so, today, looking nice. tomorrow we're going to see changes move in with clouds further inland. 65 degrees, and that cooling trend is going to stay around as we head into the workweek. >> many san francisco police officers are expected to take the polar plunge at aquatic park. that's happening in san francisco today. the swim followed by a 5k walk is to support special olympics. now, you don't have to be a police officer to take part. the event start this is morning at 9:00 a.m. you're looking at a plunge from last month.

income familiarly. he lives with seven others in their home, but his biggest challenge is that he's gay. >> it's hard at first because you just wish there would be someone else that is the same as you, but in this little hispanic community, there's not many gay people. >> it takes incredible courage. for him, it was coming from all sides. >> he was a freshman when a teenager in new york, jamie watermeyer committed suicide after being relentlessly bullied. >> they cornered me in the hallways and i could never escape it. >> he was an inspiration to me because i felt like i was like him, how he wanted to express himself and dance and do all these things that boys don't regularly do and how all these other people were so mean to him. >> when he found the courage to come out later that year, it was liberating, but he could also feel people judging him.

>> when he first came here, many people laughed at him. >> the isolation eventually got to him. >> all these ideas that society has put in my mind that gay people are bad and that they should go to hell and that they don't belong here, they just drove me to the point where i was like, maybe they're right. >> he considered suicide. >> my thoughts just got the best of me. and i just got the rope and tied it. i was ready to just go. but thankfully i talked myself out of it. >> last year, another teenager, transgender lila alcorn, killed herself. her parents disapproved of her. >> at the end of her suicide note, she wrote that she wishes her death can mean something. after reading that, i feel like it's my turn to make that

cold car crashed into two men crossing the street. one was hurt, the second thrown into the bed of this pickup truck where he died. the victim was maurice summerfield, a father with young kids. karol johnson runs the moore foundation. she spoke with the victim just half an hour before the crash. >> he gave us a donation, and he said, it's not much, but it's just the thought that counts. >> well, the driver of the speeding car jumped out and took off. investigators say there were several witnesses when the crash happened. they're asking anyone with information to give them a call. >> it's not just fans in vague and oakland, raising a stink about the teen's plans the to build and share a stadium in los angeles. jeff lind reports the proposed location is a former land fill. >> long time carson resident ruby spencer has not made up here mind about the prospect of an nfl stadium being built on this landfill just a few blocks

number, it will not change. people trying to call you will just have to dial a 1 before calling from a land line. >> bay area home sale numbers in january are out. sales are at the lowest level in seven years. sales fell by 5.5%. that's not a big surprise. home sales tend to cool off during these winter months, but at the same time, the median home price went up. it's now $572,000. that's a 9% increase from january 2014. new this morning, medical instruments are being blamed for spreading a super bug that led to two deaths at the ucla medical center. it's an endoscope commonly used for procedures on the gallbladder and pancreas. because of the complex design of the instrument, they still carried the deadly bacteria, even after disinfecting

's many more where that came from. now, a lot of this comes from private donations. people donate money in the community, but a lot of this food really comes out of their own pockets. >> and the other one? >> on an average day, these two women cook and help deliver nutritious food to five dozen

homebound people in sonoma. they provide nourishment and human contact. and they don't get a dime. >> if we can get them -- it's a very important first step to help. she used to vote tier with meals on wheels. >> well, today i'm not going to eat the cake. then every day i say, well, just a little piece. >> these two women volunteer more than 40 hours a week. their goal is for their communities to eventually be strong enough to go it alone. >> nothing makes us happier than somebody calling us and saying after two or three months, i can do it on my own now, but thank you so much. >> how are you. >> for warming the hearts and stomachs, this week's jefferson award in the bay area goes to sue holman and susan weeks. >> elizabeth cook, kpix5. >> meals on wheels does not

66 in dublin. 69 degrees in vallejo today. >> a cooler 61 in daily city. as we head to the north bay, a lot of high 60s. we have 70 in sonoma. so today looking good, but tomorrow, cooler, breezier, and temperatures are going to stay cool to mild as we head into the work week. by friday, we're going to see increasing clouds start to roll in with a possibility of rain next weekend. >> this has not been a good year for sea lion pups. a lot of them are starving. it is all about warmer than normal ocean water. >> starving baby sea lions are showing up all along the coast. now, scientists think they may know why. water that's up to 8 degrees warmer than normal in some spots. >> and this warm water pocket is stretching all the way from alaska down to baja mexico. >> this warm water affects the

fish their mother's use and without nutrition themselves, moms have a hard time nursing the pups. >> the first disperse and go to different places because the warm water pushes them to different areas. >> now 550 california sea lions are being treated in rescue facilities across the state. the marine ma'amal center has nearly 200 of them. and more are coming in every day. >> at what point will you reach capacity at the current rate of bringing animals in. >> i don't see us hitting capacity anytime soon. we're going to be able to release animals soon. >> there's a blend force fed to pups too young to eat fish and too young to be without their mothers. it's a tough job. >> a lot of them are still dying. too far gone. they're babies, underweight, and the vets are doing the best they can. most of them survive and return to the wild.
